Mona & Spooky - Life Post-mortem
This original, debut musical indulges the hoax of Transylvanian-vampire stereotypes in a story about a lonely, 350-year-old vampire whose long-term companion is staked to death by the local villagers, leaving her in a state of grief and paranoia. Our vampire protagonist, Mona, decides to create a companion named Spooky; a Frankensteinesque-cat-puppet. Together the pair pass eternity by writing a fantastical musical about the wonders of vampirism, bringing a centuries-old dream to life. Mona & Spooky is a 50-minute musical theatre comedy that will delight the imagination, dazzle audiences with multi-instrumentalist performers, and immerse viewers in vampiric escapism and obscurity. Think Tim Burton-meets-Chicago. Starring two professional musical improvisers, this 7-year-long passion project features 12 original songs by writer/performer Simone McGennisken. A lifelong musician, Simone has played piano for 28 years, with strong compositional roots in jazz, soul-ballads, blues, folk, mid-century pop and musical theatre.
